Sarawak has proposed AirBorneo be an official airline partner for the 2027 SEA Games to support regional connectivity for participating nations.
KUCHING: Sarawak has proposed that AirBorneo be appointed as an official airline partner for the 2027 SEA Games, which the state is co-hosting.
State Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he personally conveyed the request during discussions with the Youth and Sports Ministry last year.
He also requested that TVS be considered as an additional official broadcaster alongside RTM.
Abdul Karim expressed hope that AirBorneo would have jet aircraft operational by September 2027 to facilitate charter services for the ten participating Southeast Asian nations.
As an official partner, the airline could support regional connectivity through scheduled or chartered flights, depending on its fleet readiness.
The minister highlighted Sarawak’s strong commitment to hosting the Games, with the state government allocating RM350 million towards the total RM700 million hosting cost.
This allocation forms part of a financial guarantee presented to the federal government.
