PETRA’s new strategic plan for 2026-2030 aims to fast-track Malaysia’s energy transition and water transformation with 133 measurable targets.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2030 (PSP26–30).
The five-year roadmap is designed to accelerate the national energy transition and water transformation agenda.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the plan is structured around six strategic thrusts.
It encompasses 34 strategies, 119 programmes and initiatives, and 133 clear and measurable targets.
“My hope is that all divisions, departments and agencies under PETRA will give their full commitment to ensure that this five-year plan is implemented effectively and achieves its intended objectives,” he said.
Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, shared the ministry’s key achievements from 2025.
In the water sector, 88.89% of water supply connection projects were completed on or ahead of schedule.
A total of 21 water treatment plants were completed, supplying 2,081 million litres per day.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage implemented 149 flood mitigation projects benefiting 1.77 million people.
In the energy sector, installed renewable energy capacity exceeded 13,300 megawatts by December 2025.
Energy savings under the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan achieved cumulative electricity savings of 60,852 gigawatt-hours.
This translated into cost savings of RM16.09 billion and a reduction in carbon emissions of 35.6 million tonnes.
On regional cooperation, Malaysia launched Phase One of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation 2026-2035.
PETRA also recorded an expenditure performance of RM4.45 billion, or 99.5% of its 2025 allocation.
This placed it among the country’s top five-performing ministries for the year.
Fadillah said a positive work culture was strengthened as PETRA achieved the highest workplace happiness index.
“May PETRA continue to chart excellence, strengthen public trust and drive Malaysia towards a more sustainable, prosperous and competitive future,” he said.
