Police detain Papagomo for alleged sedition against Agong

PETALING JAYA: The police have detained political activist Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris popularly known as Papagomo, for allegedly insulting His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

According to The Star, Papagomo allegedly uttered the statement through a two-minute 46-second video uploaded online.

In the video, Papagomo questioned why the Yang di-Pertuan Agong met the owner of KK Super Mart, which was embroiled in the socks controversy.

According to the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, the arrest was made by Bukit Aman CID’s Special Investigation Unit on Tuesday (April 30).

“He was detained following a police report lodged by a 41-year-old trader who saw the video on social media on Monday (April 29).

“Papagomo was detained at his home in Setapak,“ he was quoted as saying by the English daily.

Razarudin further said the police who have currently held at the Dang Wangi police headquarters, would be making a remand application.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
