Over 1.76 million Sabah voters will cast their ballots tomorrow to elect 73 assemblymen, with results expected from 10 pm as campaigning ends tonight.
KOTA KINABALU: Campaigning for the 17th Sabah State Election ends at 11.59 pm tonight.
All 882 polling centres with 3,558 streams will open simultaneously at 7.30 am tomorrow.
They will close in stages from 12 pm to 5.30 pm.
A total of 1.76 million voters will determine the outcome of the 14-day campaign period.
On Tuesday, 17,615 early voters comprising police and military personnel and their spouses completed their voting responsibility.
The Election Commission expects early results to be announced around 10 pm.
More than 12,000 police personnel have been mobilised to ensure smooth voting.
The election involves an estimated allocation of RM116.8 million.
The Tulid seat sees the fiercest contest with 14 candidates.
Bandau, Tamparuli and Inanam each feature 13-cornered fights, while Banggi has 12 candidates.
A total of 596 candidates – 525 men and 71 women – are contesting the 73 seats.
Independent candidates form the largest group with 74 contenders.
Warisan is contesting all 73 seats, followed by Parti Impian Sabah (72) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (55).
Other major parties include Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (46), Barisan Nasional (45) and Perikatan Nasional (42).
The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts rain in several parts of Sabah tomorrow morning.
Thunderstorms are expected in most interior areas in the afternoon, with rain also forecast in several places at night.
