Amanah Johor warns BN: “We’re ready to face off if denied seats in next election”

Johor Amanah delegate Ahmad Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda has warned BN in the state that PH, including Amanah, is ready to contest against the coalition.

SHAH ALAM: Johor Amanah delegate Ahmad Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda has warned Barisan Nasional (BN) in the state that Pakatan Harapan (PH), including Amanah, is ready to contest against the coalition in the next election if seat negotiations fail to reach an agreement.

“If BN continues to act arrogantly and refuses to cooperate with us (PH), Johor Amanah is fully prepared to mobilise its party machinery to face the upcoming elections,” he said during the debate session on the president’s address at the 2025 Amanah National Convention here today.

He added that Johor Amanah hopes party members nationwide will come together to help ensure victory for both Amanah and PH.

However, Ahmad Fadhli stressed that the Johor delegates would ultimately leave it to the party leadership to negotiate seat allocations for the next election.

Earlier in June, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had stated that the Johor state election would only be held by April 2027, in line with the expiry of the current term.

In the 2022 Johor state election, BN and Umno won 40 out of 56 seats, while PH secured 12 — 10 through DAP, and one each by PKR and Amanah. Perikatan Nasional (PN) won three seats — two under Bersatu, and one each by PAS and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA).

Under the current arrangement, incumbent representatives are generally given priority to defend their seats.

This has caused tensions in Johor, as the Madani government coalition — comprising PH, BN, and the Borneo-based blocs of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) — was only formed after the 15th General Election in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Johor delegate, who is also the son of Sri Gading MP Aminolhuda Hasaan, proposed that Amanah postpone its internal party elections until after the 16th general election, citing divisions that have recently occurred in PKR and Bersatu after holding their respective party elections.

“Johor has full confidence in the leadership of Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Senator Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa, and the entire Amanah leadership lineup to lead the party into the next general election,” he said, drawing loud cheers from most delegates in the hall.
