Health Ministry calls on public and healthcare workers to report medicine side effects during #MedSafetyWeek 2025 global safety campaign.
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health has urged the public and healthcare workers to actively report medicine side effects during the annual #MedSafetyWeek 2025 campaign.
Running from November 3 to 9, the campaign aims to ensure continued medicine safety in Malaysia through coordinated global efforts.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the international initiative involving 130 organisations across 117 countries.
The theme ‘We can all help make medicines safer’ emphasises shared responsibility among healthcare professionals, manufacturers and consumers.
“Medicine manufacturers and consumers also play an important role in ensuring that medicines used remain safe,” the ministry stated.
Monitoring medicine safety is crucial to verify that market products remain both safe and effective.
The campaign raises awareness about identifying and reporting suspected side effects from medicine use.
“All reports received will be analysed to detect potential new safety risks,” the ministry explained.
Reports help identify previously unknown side effects or determine appropriate risk mitigation measures.
Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency collects and evaluates each side effect report.
Appropriate action follows if new safety concerns emerge, ensuring consumers maintain optimal medicine benefits.
Healthcare workers can submit reports through the Hospital Pharmacy Information System at ministry facilities.
Alternatively, they can email manual forms to NPRA at [email protected].
Consumers may report suspected side effects by consulting healthcare providers directly.
They can also submit the Consumer Side Effect Reporting Form via email or post.
“Public cooperation is greatly appreciated in maintaining an effective drug safety monitoring system,” the ministry said.
The ministry encourages all parties to spread medicine safety messages using #MedSafetyWeek on social media.
