Anwar urges stronger PH mandate for Negeri Sembilan continuity

Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim appeals to Negeri Sembilan voters for a stronger mandate to ensure a clean, stable administration under Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has appealed for the consideration and trust of the people of Negeri Sembilan to grant a stronger mandate to PH in the upcoming State Election (PRN).

Through a post on Facebook, Anwar, who is also the Prime Minister, said that this is to ensure the continuity of a clean, stable, and integrity-driven administration under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Anwar said various initiatives have been set in motion since 2018, but much remains to be continued so that prosperity can be enjoyed by all citizens of Negeri Sembilan.

“May all PH candidates be granted strength, have their affairs eased, and achieve the best success. To Allah SWT we place our trust,” he said.

The Election Commission (EC) informed that a total of 103 candidates have been confirmed to contest in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election to vie for 36 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats, after the nomination process concluded today.

PH dominates the contest by fielding 36 candidates, including Aminuddin in the Linggi state seat, followed by Barisan Nasional (BN) with 25 candidates, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) with 24 candidates, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 11 candidates.

Other parties contesting include the Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa), Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI), and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), which have sent one representative each, in addition to four Independent candidates.

The Negeri Sembilan state assembly was dissolved on June 5, and the EC has set August 1 as the polling date, while early voting will take place on July 28.

Road crash offenders to pay compensation under new law

PUTRAJAYA, July 19 (Bernama) -- The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) fully supports the Cabinet's decision to amend the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) to make it mandatory for offenders to pay compensation to road crash victims.Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the legislative move was in line with the department's ongoing efforts to examine the implementation of the ‘diyat’ mechanism, or syariah-based compensation, together with muftis and legal experts since Feb 11."We are ready to contribute our expertise to ensure that the court compensation mechanism is drafted in a manner that is fair, free from loopholes, and capable of protecting the rights of families who have lost their breadwinners," he said in a statement today. On Friday, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the Cabinet had agreed in principle to amend Act 333 to empower the courts to order road crash offenders to pay compensation to victims or their next of kin as an additional punishment, on top of existing penalties.Zulkifli said the Transport Ministry's firm stance on road traffic offenders, particularly drunk and drug-impaired drivers, is appropriate."They should not be allowed to escape with only imprisonment and fines, but must instead be held fully financially accountable, to safeguard the welfare of the victims' next of kin."Tragedies that claim lives due to gross negligence, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, are crimes that cannot be compromised with under any circumstances," he said, adding that the amendment would also ensure that justice for victims was delivered swiftly without having to go through prolonged civil proceedings.
