BN will negotiate with GRS and other Sabah parties on candidates for the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections following Bung Moktar’s death
SEMENYIH: Barisan Nasional (BN) will hold discussions with all parties in the Sabah government on candidate selection for the upcoming Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said negotiations are necessary as the coalition is part of the state administration.
“As we are part of the Sabah government, it is not impossible for us to engage in discussions not only with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), but also with other parties that previously contested in Lamag,” he said.
He added that discussions will also be held for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat.
Ahmad Zahid said a negotiated approach is better with up to 24 months remaining in the current parliamentary term.
He spoke to reporters after officiating the Indian Progress Front (IPF) General Assembly.
The by-elections were triggered by the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on 5 December.
The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on 16 December to set key dates for both polls.
In a separate matter, Ahmad Zahid said the Prime Minister has not asked him to propose names for Cabinet vacancies.
