PHRS president Liew Yun Fah supports GRS candidate Samsiah Usman for Kukusan, citing youth representation and development commitments
TAWAU: Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah has pledged support for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah candidate Samsiah Usman in the Kukusan state seat contest.
Liew stated he would assist Samsiah’s campaign despite not being selected as a candidate himself in the 17th Sabah State Election.
He described Samsiah as representing youth voices with fresh development ideas for the constituency.
“Give young candidates a chance,” Liew said during a campaign event with Kukusan youth attended by Samsiah.
“The voice of young people is important.”
He emphasized Samsiah possesses the ideas, commitment and capability to represent Kukusan’s youth.
Liew revealed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim committed to cooperating on development agendas in Kukusan and Merotai.
He said this requires continuity of GRS leadership in the state government.
According to Liew, Kukusan youth constitute a mature group not easily swayed by empty promises.
“These youths can’t be easily bought,” he stated.
“They need job opportunities and a better life, not mere slogans.”
He noted many young people seek employment elsewhere due to limited local opportunities.
Liew identified this issue requires immediate attention from elected representatives.
The PHRS leader described the GRS-led Sabah government as compatible with youth needs in Kukusan.
“Kukusan and Merotai need consistent development, not political experiments,” he asserted.
Regarding village gazettement and land issues, Liew emphasized the need for expedited resolutions.
“The land belongs to the villagers,” he said.
“We want it approved immediately so that they can live in peace.”
He stressed residents should not be burdened by ownership uncertainties.
