Final preparations are complete for the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections, with voting equipment distributed to 36 polling centres ahead of Saturday’s vote.
KINABATANGAN: The Election Commission has completed the distribution of voting equipment to 36 polling centres with 117 channels.
Commissioner Datuk Sapdin Ibrahim said final preparations for Saturday’s dual by-elections are proceeding smoothly.
“We have divided it into three zones,” he said at Sri Lamag Hall.
Equipment for the Lamag state seat and part of the Kinabatangan parliamentary vote is at Sri Lamag Hall.
Kinabatangan equipment for the Sukau state constituency is at the district education office, while Kuamut’s is at the Tongod District Office.
A total of 48,526 voters are eligible in the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election.
For the Lamag state seat, 13,703 voters are registered to cast their ballots.
The Kinabatangan contest is a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional’s Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, Warisan’s Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman and independent Goldam Hamid.
The Lamag state seat is a direct contest between BN’s Mohd Ismail Ayob and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek.
The by-elections were triggered by the death of incumbent MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Dec 5 last year.
