Kinabatangan, Lamag by-elections set for polling day tomorrow

Voters to decide Kinabatangan MP, 13,703 for Lamag state seat in Saturday by-elections with polling centres open from 7.30 am.

KINABATANGAN: A total of 48,526 voters will cast ballots for a new Member of Parliament in the Kinabatangan by-election tomorrow. Another 13,703 voters will decide the Lamag state seat.

All 36 polling centres, comprising 117 polling stations, will be open from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm. Twenty-five centres will close earlier, between noon and 5 pm.

The voting process concludes after the last 11 centres close at 5.30 pm. Vote counting will take place at the official tallying centre in Dewan Sri Lamag.

The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election is a three-way contest. Candidates are Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar (Barisan Nasional), Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan), and independent Goldam Hamid.

The Lamag state seat sees a straight fight between Mohd Ismail Ayob (BN) and Mazliwati Abdul Malek (Warisan). All five candidates will cast their votes at designated polling stations.

The by-election was triggered by the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Dec 5 last year. He had held both the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state seats.

The Election Commission reported that 93% of police personnel cast their early votes last Tuesday. Campaigning ended tonight at 11.59 pm.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts fair weather tomorrow morning. Thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon with rain in the evening.
