PKR official urges Sabah voters to prioritise long-term goals over emotions

PKR deputy secretary urges Sabah’s 700,000 new voters to choose based on track records, not slogans

PETALING JAYA: As the nomination period for Sabah’s state election draws to a close, a senior PKR official has emphasized the critical influence of undecided voters in determining the results across multiple constituencies.

Aidi Amin Yazid, the party’s deputy secretary general, urged the electorate to carefully scrutinize campaign commitments rather than accepting them at face value.

“Recent days have witnessed considerable political movement, with candidates crossing party lines and others choosing to run independently,” he observed.

“Each has presented various commitments and campaign slogans designed to attract support, but ultimately, the decision rests with voters at the polling stations.

“The electorate must draw on past experiences and base their choices on demonstrated achievements rather than rhetoric,” Aidi stated.

He highlighted that Pakatan Harapan has delivered effective governance nationally by addressing citizens’ genuine concerns with empathy and understanding.

“Sabah requires the same approach. Candidates must genuinely comprehend Sabahans’ requirements rather than relying solely on catchy phrases to secure votes.

“The voter roll has expanded by more than 700,000 since the previous Sabah election, with many likely still undecided.
“This substantial undecided bloc must exercise careful judgment in distinguishing authentic commitments from hollow promises,” he emphasized.

During an appearance on PKR’s “Kerusi Biru” podcast, Aidi also warned against certain non-governmental organizations that exploit issues affecting local sensibilities.

He called on Sabahans to avoid letting emotions cloud their electoral decisions.

Regarding UPKO’s departure from the PH coalition, Aidi suggested the move served individual ambitions rather than voter interests.

“This represents opportunistic positioning, gambling on increased support by presenting themselves as a regional party.

“Can the ‘Sabah for Sabahans’ message succeed if a local party cannot fulfill its commitments?

“What truly matters is delivery capability. As our prime minister has repeatedly stated, robust federal-state cooperation is essential for both state and national prosperity.

“Therefore, I encourage first-time voters and the undecided majority to consider carefully and vote for what serves the future best, not simply for local identity politics,” he concluded.
