Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulates Japan’s PM Takaichi Sanae on her party’s landslide election victory, pledging to deepen the strategic partnership.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated his Japanese counterpart, Takaichi Sanae, on her party’s decisive election victory.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said the Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) resounding mandate reflects public confidence in her vision for Japan’s economic renewal.
He noted that Takaichi engaged with genuine commitment during her visit to Malaysia last October.
“She has famously said that she will ‘work, work, work, work and work’ for Japan,” Anwar stated.
“I look forward to working just as intensely with Prime Minister Takaichi to take the Malaysia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to the next level,” he added.
Anwar highlighted their discussions on issues including economic resilience, the green transition and maritime security.
He affirmed Malaysia’s commitment to sustaining momentum on these key priorities.
According to Kyodo News Agency, the LDP and its coalition partner won a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives.
The ruling coalition secured over 310 seats in the 465-member lower house in Sunday’s election.
This landmark victory enables the government to move towards amending Japan’s postwar Constitution.
Crossing this threshold allows the coalition to pass bills even if they are rejected by the upper house.
