Sabah CM dismisses ‘Borneo bloc’ narrative as divisive

Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor denies efforts to create a ‘Borneo bloc’, stressing Sabah and Sarawak’s integral role within a united Malaysia.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has firmly denied claims of efforts to create a so-called ‘Borneo bloc’.

He stated that no such entity exists because Sabah and Sarawak remain integral parts of Malaysia.

Hajiji emphasised the necessity for cooperation between all states and the federal government to strengthen the nation.

He questioned the origins of the concept by asking who was supposedly creating such a bloc.

The Chief Minister made these remarks after launching the Sabah Higher Education Student Contribution Assistance Initiative at Politeknik Kota Kinabalu.

He argued that the narrative needed correction as approaches that separate states with labels could confuse the public.

Recent media reports quoted a political leader saying Sabah and Sarawak wield strong influence and seek to strengthen it further through a proposed bloc.
