Shafie confirms no meetings with political leaders after Sabah polls

Warisan president Shafie Apdal says he hasn’t met any party leaders following election results, will only meet them at state assembly sitting

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal confirmed he has not met any political party leaders following the Sabah state election results.

Shafie, who successfully defended his Senallang seat, said he would only meet with political party leaders during the Sabah State Legislative Assembly sitting.

“No…I’ve already slept…I’m tired of campaigning for days and I’ve been working for more than four years,” he told reporters.

“In this election, I haven’t met with any party leaders,” Shafie said when asked about potential coalition discussions.

This was Shafie’s first press conference after Warisan secured 25 state seats compared to GRS’s 29 seats.

Other results saw Barisan Nasional win 6 seats, Independents 5, Pakatan Harapan 1, Perikatan Nasional 1, UPKO 3, STAR 2 and KDM 1.

GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was sworn in as Sabah Chief Minister for his second term early this morning.

Hajiji took his oath before Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu around 3am.

When asked if Warisan was ready to become the opposition, Shafie said his party was assessing the situation based on previous government formations.

“We will see, because I knew that the GRS government with BN would not last long,” he stated.

“There are always dynamics in politics in this state,” Shafie added.

He also expressed appreciation to Sabah’s Chinese community for their increased support for Warisan in the election.

This support came despite eight DAP candidates losing their contests in the state polls. – Bernama
