Elected representatives who win on party tickets must serve until the end of their term to respect the people’s mandate, says PH deputy chairman Anthony Loke.

JOHOR BAHRU: Those elected on party tickets should serve till the end of their term to respect the people’s mandate, Pakatan Harapan (PH) deputy chairman Anthony Loke.

The DAP secretary-general said the principle should be respected as the candidate’s win was gained on the capacity of the party they represented.

“We (elected representatives) need to respect the process that when we win on the party’s capacity, we need to remain till the election,” he told reporters after the PH convention at the Johor Persada International Convention Centre here today, which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other PH leaders.

Loke was commenting on the actions of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who announced their decision to quit their party and to vacate their parliamentary seats effective tomorrow.

Such actions might have a legal implication and the matter needed to be decided by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, he added.

Rafizi, the Pandan MP and Nik Nazmi, the Setiawangsa MP will reportedly hand in their letters regarding their seats to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker tomorrow and their PKR resignation letters to PKR secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Salleh on Tuesday.

Following their announcement today, both MPs also announced they would take over Parti Bersama Malaysia from party founder and president Tan Gim Theam as their new political platform.

Parti Bersama Malaysia was set up on Dec 2, 2016 and is active in Penang.
