JAIS to submit proposal in May to increase KAFA teachers’ allowance from RM1,500 to RM1,700 monthly in Selangor.
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) will submit a proposal in May to increase the allowance of Kelas Al-Quran dan Fardu Ain (KAFA) teachers from RM1,500 to RM1,700 a month, the state legislative assembly was told today.
Islamic Religious Affairs and Innovation Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the proposal is in line with the current rise in the cost of living and takes into account the workload of KAFA teachers.
“The working hours of KAFA teachers are about five hours a day and five days a week, while their workplaces are usually near their homes.
“This proposed increase is also aimed at attracting more applicants and retaining existing KAFA teachers in schools,” he said when replying to a question from Sallehen Mukhyi (PN-Sabak).
On mechanisms to safeguard the welfare of KAFA teachers, he said the state government also provides Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions as well as various leave entitlements.
He said these include 10 days of special leave, five days of quarantine leave, three days of bereavement leave, and 15 days of annual medical leave.
“In addition, KAFA teachers are also entitled to extended critical medical leave of up to 180 days, 60 days of maternity leave, as well as leave to perform umrah and haj according to the stipulated period.
“They are also given opportunities and support to pursue higher education and attend professional development courses,” he said, adding that improvements to these benefits will continue in stages to ensure the welfare of KAFA teachers is always safeguarded in line with current needs.
