SEREMBAN: The RM8.75 million project to upgrade Seremban Railway Station is 97% complete as of yesterday.
Negeri Sembilan State Local Government Development, Housing and Transport Committee chairman J. Arul Kumar said the project involves major architectural, structural, and interior finish upgrades.
He stated the progress demonstrates the commitment of all parties to complete the project on schedule by March 16 next year.
“This is my third visit, and each time we come, we see the project making good progress,” Arul Kumar told reporters after an inspection.
He expressed confidence the contractor has properly planned the work to ensure completion before the March deadline despite the rainy season.
The project began on January 11, 2023, and includes upgrades to electrical, mechanical, and civil systems.
Work on the clock tower restoration, mechanical and electrical systems, and final building finishes is now undergoing testing and commissioning.
This final phase ensures safety, reliability, and user comfort before the official handover.
The over-115-year-old station continues to serve the public and was gazetted as a National Heritage Building in 2015.
Arul Kumar also highlighted the separate new Seremban Station construction project under the Klang Valley Double Track 2 (KVDT2).
That RM154 million project is being actively carried out by Dhaya Maju LTAT Sdn Bhd (DMIA).
It involves demolishing the existing platform roof and reconstructing station facilities with an integrated development approach.
The new design will preserve the heritage identity of the old building while adding a new pavilion with commercial and social functions.
“The project will later feature a new pavilion with commercial and social functions, designed to reactivate the heritage building and transform it into a community hub and urban attraction,” he said.
