IPOH: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, today officiated the Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh here, which involves an investment of more than RM430 million.

His Royal Highness was accompanied by the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim.

The royal couple was received on arrival by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife, Datin Seri Aezer Zubin.

Also present were Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah and Sunway Healthcare Group president Datuk Lau Beng Long.

At the event, Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara were given a tour of Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh facilities.

Earlier in his speech, Saarani said that with the construction of modern hospitals such as Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh, opportunities have opened up for local graduates to gain knowledge and clinical experience in Perak.

“This is where they build their careers, contribute and uphold the desire for Perak to continue to stand majestically with the strength of its own people.

“For the state government, investments like this are not only valuable from an economic perspective, but reflect a larger humanitarian mission, ensuring that the people of Perak have access to fair, quality and humane treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile in his speech, Lau said the launch of Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh marks a significant milestone for Sunway Healthcare Group, serving as Sunway’s fifth tertiary hospital with an investment of more than RM430 million.

“As part of our vision to expand quality healthcare across Malaysia and the region, this hospital in Perak is designed to deliver world-class care for the people of Ipoh, as well as the northern region and beyond,” he said.

Lau said with the launch of Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh, they are proud to introduce Perak’s first PET-CT scanner and the Mako SmartRobotics system for cutting-edge cancer diagnostics and robotic knee and hip replacement surgery.

He said the state-of-the-art technology, alongside their advanced facilities such as its dedicated Cancer Centre and Nuclear Medicine Centre makes Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh the go-to hub of medical and healthcare excellence in support of Ipoh’s aspiration to become a Health City by 2025.

“Our commitment here is to not only provide advanced medical treatments and facilities, but also to nurture a holistic environment where clinical excellence is complemented by compassion, safety, and innovation.

“With the current capacity of 259 beds and provision for future expansion, Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh will serve as a hub of comprehensive healthcare and senior living facilities, from acute and specialist services to wellness and preventive care,” he said.

He added that they are also confident the hospital will further enhance the experience of its patients and visitors, as it is strategically located within Sunway City Ipoh, which spans about 1,350-acres and set against the lush tropical greenery as well as the majestic 260-million-year-old limestone hills of the Kinta Valley.

Lau said currently there are 1,700 beds in total in Sunway Healthcare Group and with ongoing expansions in the next couple of years in its existing five hospitals, they will grow to 2,400 beds, as eventually the Group will have 3,400 beds by 2032.
