Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque draws over 100,000 visitors in 2025

The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam attracted more than 100,000 tourists in 2025, solidifying its status as a premier Islamic tourism destination.

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque recorded over 100,000 tourist visits throughout 2025.

Grand Imam Datuk Muhammad Farhan Wijaya said the figure included visitors from Europe, West Asia and East Asia.

He stated the achievement reflects a significant rise in interest for mosque tourism.

This aligns with efforts to enhance mosques as centres for knowledge, culture and architecture.

“The increase in visitors shows that the mosque is not merely a place of worship, but also serves as a space to showcase the beauty of Islam to all,” he said in a statement.

He noted high interest from non-Muslim tourists in understanding Islamic architecture, history and values.

Programmes organised by the Masjid Negeri Selangor Guide (MNSG) contributed to the increased numbers.

The mosque collaborated with tourism agencies, educational institutions and NGOs to ensure informative and respectful visits.

Various initiatives were introduced throughout the year, including guided tours and Mosque Open Day events.

Muhammad Farhan said the achievement supports Selangor’s goal to strengthen Islamic culture and heritage tourism.

The mosque plays a strategic role as an ‘entry point’ to a more inclusive Islamic tourism narrative.

This contributes positively to the local economy, according to the Grand Imam.

Plans are in place to develop mosque tourism programmes more sustainably next year.

The iconic mosque is renowned for having the largest blue dome in Southeast Asia.

Its four minarets stand 142.3 metres tall, offering a unique tourism experience.

The architecture blends modern Islamic, Malay and Middle Eastern design elements.

Other attractions include intricate interior calligraphy, wood carvings and a spacious prayer layout.

The mosque is located in the heart of Shah Alam city.
