Police confirm loud booms heard in Sungai Petani were part of Malaysian Armed Forces training exercise, urge public to remain calm
SUNGAI PETANI: The loud booms heard by residents around the town today were part of a training exercise conducted by the Malaysian Armed Forces based here.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan confirmed the police received complaints and inquiries from the public about explosion-like sounds between 9 am and 10 am.
He stated that the sounds originated from the ATM base and the training being conducted is under control.
The public is advised to remain calm and refrain from making unverified speculations, especially on social media, to avoid causing confusion and anxiety.
Similar loud sounds can be expected tomorrow between 10 am and noon during the continuation of the ATM exercise. – Bernama
