Tattoo: Minister urges Muslims to uphold religious boundaries, seek help from experts

Minister Zulkifli Hasan advises Muslims to avoid tattooing and seek expert help for personal issues, highlighting Jakim’s free counselling services.

PUTRAJAYA: Muslims have been advised to uphold religious boundaries and personal dignity by avoiding practices like tattooing.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan issued the reminder in a statement today.

He stressed that acts contradicting Islamic teachings, such as tattooing, should not be normalised in society. Zulkifli urged Muslims to preserve their faith and honour.

The minister also cautioned against exposing personal shortcomings on social media when facing difficulties. He advised seeking appropriate help from qualified experts instead.

For such purposes, the Department of Islamic Development provides free advisory services through its KSKCareCentre. The centre offers syarie counselling and therapy at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque here.

Members of the public may also contact MyCareJAKIM via its hotline for assistance. The statement follows a viral video involving a Muslim social media influencer.

The content creator drew public attention after confessing to having a tattoo on his left arm.
