Terengganu RTD issued 2,351 summonses in a January motorcycle safety operation, with helmetless riding the top offence among 1,063 vehicles penalised.
KUALA NERUS: The Terengganu Road Transport Department issued 2,351 summonses during a special motorcycle operation conducted throughout January.
State RTD director Mohd Zamri Samion said the summonses resulted from inspections of 7,438 vehicles, which included motorcycles, cars and other private vehicles.
A total of 1,063 vehicles were penalised for various offences during the operation period.
“The most common offence among motorcyclists was failing to wear helmets,” he said during the Special Motorcycle Operations at Pantai Seberang Takir.
He listed other offences as vehicle modifications, failure to display registration numbers, non-compliant plates and other technical violations.
RTD also issued 101 prohibition notices, 117 vehicle inspection notices, 312 notices to attend investigations and 73 seizure notices in the same period.
Under a separate operation targeting illegal street racing, RTD issued 2,409 notices and seized 268 motorcycles in January.
Mohd Zamri said RTD Terengganu will intensify the Special Motorcycle Operations this year, particularly at identified hotspots.
These hotspots include Bandar Baru Kuala Nerus, Jalan Mengabang Telipot, Jalan Padang Nenas and Jalan Durian Burung–Manir.
Other locations are Jalan Wakaf Beruas–Bukit Payong, Jalan Chendering, Kampung Teluk Ketapang, Kampung Losong and Jalan Taman Tamadun Islam.
The move was prompted by an increasing trend in motorcycle-related offences in recent years.
He cited 25,358 summonses issued under the Special Motorcycle Operations last year compared with 23,457 in 2024.
