Youth involvement in the Voluntary Patrol Scheme signals stronger community unity and grassroots safety movements, says deputy minister
PONTIAN: Active participation of youths in the Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) is a positive sign in strengthening unity and community-based movements at the grassroots level.
Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran said the involvement of young people in the scheme is crucial as they are the key successors in sustaining efforts to enhance safety and harmony within the community.
“This participation also reflects the growing awareness among youths of their responsibility in safeguarding neighbourhood security and fostering a spirit of togetherness,” he said in a statement.
Earlier, he joined a motorcycle patrol convoy with members of the SRS under the Taman Damai Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) here and visited several houses designated as patrol pit stops, allowing him to observe the implementation of community patrols.
He said the experience provided an opportunity to witness firsthand the volunteerism, discipline and strong commitment demonstrated by SRS members, including youths, in helping to safeguard the safety and harmony of the neighbourhood.
“Congratulations to all SRS members of KRT Taman Damai for their dedication and continuous efforts. This KRT should serve as a model for other communities as it has demonstrated strong teamwork and commitment in maintaining safety and harmony in the area,” he said.
Introduced in 2004, the SRS is an initiative under the Ministry of National Unity through the Department of National Unity and National Integration to empower community participation in enhancing safety, preventing social ills and strengthening ties among residents.
