Malaysia hosts ASEAN seminar on out-of-school children and youth, launching tracking system and emphasising data-driven solutions.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is intensifying regional efforts to tackle systemic challenges facing marginalised children and youth through the ASEAN Out-of-School Children and Youth Seminar.
The Ministry of Education stated that the October 28-30 seminar followed the Langkawi Joint Statement from June’s ASEAN Education Ministers roundtable.
Titled “From Margin to Centre: Bridging OOSCY Intersectionalities through Innovative Solutions in ASEAN”, the event focused on data-driven strategies for out-of-school children and youth.
It emphasised strengthened cooperation and advanced technology integration, particularly artificial intelligence, to enhance data quality and support intervention programmes.
Children’s Co-Lab activities were implemented to empower student voices and perspectives during the seminar.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek officiated the event, highlighting collective commitment to addressing student dropout and ensuring quality education for all.
The seminar gathered over 100 participants from ASEAN member countries, Mongolia, China, and India with UNICEF Malaysia support.
Strategic partners included UNICEF, UNESCO, OECD, and SEAMEO, fostering comprehensive regional collaboration.
Fadhlina launched the Ministry’s Student Tracking System using predictive analytics to identify personalised learning pathways for at-risk students.
This system reinforces Malaysia’s commitment to data-driven student retention and reintegration strategies according to the Ministry. – Bernama
