Pang Ron-Su Yin advance in Kumamoto Masters after tough three-set battle

Malaysian mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin reach Kumamoto Masters second round after hard-fought win over Taiwanese opponents.

NATIONAL mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin secured their place in the Kumamoto Badminton Masters second round following a hard-fought victory today.

The world No 20 Malaysian duo battled past Taiwan’s Wu Hsuan-Yi and Yang Chu Yun 21-18, 18-21, 21-19 at Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium.

They will next face Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran in the tournament’s second round.

Women’s singles player K. Letshanaa also progressed with a 25-23, 21-8 victory over Azerbaijan’s Keisha Fatimah Azzahra.

Letshanaa will meet Taiwan’s Chiu Pin-Chian in her next match.

Two other Malaysian mixed doubles pairs suffered first-round exits in Japan.

Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie fell to Japanese duo Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara 17-21, 13-21.

Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien lost to Taiwan’s Liu Kuang Heng and Jheng Yu Chieh 15-21, 16-21.

Men’s singles player Justin Hoh was also eliminated after losing to Japan’s Shogo Ogawa 14-21, 9-21. – Bernama
