Perak’s 2026 budget gives DID RM116.9 million for flood mitigation, river conservation, and disaster risk reduction projects across the state.
IPOH: The Perak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) is set to receive a total allocation of RM116.9 million under the state’s 2026 budget.
This includes an additional RM5.4 million for management expenditure, as announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
He said the department will implement flood mitigation measures and strengthen its role as the state’s primary defence against floods.
“Even with allocation increasing yearly and various mitigation efforts, there are families suffering because of floods,” he said when presenting the Perak Budget 2026 at the state legislative assembly.
“Their precious property is destroyed in the blink of an eye, their hopes dashed just like that.”
He stressed that preventive measures must be stepped up and recovery processes sped up to prevent weather warnings from causing panic.
The operational allocation includes RM10.4 million for irrigation plan management maintenance and RM11.3 million for river management maintenance.
A further RM9.2 million is allocated for agricultural irrigation scheme maintenance, with RM3.6 million for mechanical and electrical works and RM0.9 million for hydrology facilities.
For development expenditure, RM14.0 million has been set aside for the DID.
This includes RM7.5 million for various flood mitigation projects and RM4 million for the management of rivers and beaches.
Another RM1.7 million is for agriculture irrigation, RM200,000 for buildings and infrastructure, and RM600,000 for Ecological Fiscal Transfer for Biodiversity Conservation.
Saarani also revealed several federal projects approved under the 13th Malaysia Plan rolling plan to reduce disaster risk.
These include a RM50 million river conservation project to reduce flood risks in Perak.
A RM49.9 million project is allocated for the conservation of Sungai Pelus, Pekan Lintang and related work in Kuala Kangsar district.
Another RM75 million is for Sabo works construction in Perak, and RM10 million for a beach erosion control project in Sungai Tiang Utara, Bagan Datuk.
Perak is one of the states most severely affected by recent floods, with 2,959 evacuees from 933 families housed in 35 relief centres this afternoon.
