His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim officiated the opening of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, delivering the Royal Address
KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, graced the opening ceremony of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament today.
Sultan Ibrahim arrived at Parliament Square at about 10am and was welcomed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Also present were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was escorted to the Royal Dais to receive the Royal Salute from the Main Guard of Honour of the First Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment.
The National Anthem was performed, followed by a 21-gun salute from the 41st Battery of the Royal Artillery Ceremonial Regiment.
Sultan Ibrahim then inspected the Main Guard of Honour before receiving a second Royal Salute.
Following the ceremony, His Majesty was escorted to the Royal Lounge within the Parliament building.
He then proceeded to the Dewan Rakyat to deliver the Royal Address and officially open the new parliamentary session.
The ceremony was broadcast live via official media channels, local television stations and online platforms.
The Dewan Rakyat’s 20-day sitting begins tomorrow with MPs debating the motion of thanks for the Royal Address until Jan 29.
Ministerial responses are scheduled over four days starting Feb 4.
The tabling of bills and other government business is listed over eight days from Feb 11 to March 3.
Parliament will recess on Feb 2 and 3 for Federal Territory Day and Thaipusam.
A second recess is from Feb 16 to 19 for Chinese New Year and the start of Ramadan.
The Dewan Negara sitting will be for 13 days beginning Feb 23.
