Tiong urges village chiefs to serve all, warns against neglect

Minister Tiong King Sing warns village chiefs to serve responsibly, avoid political bias, and prioritise community welfare or face removal

SIBU: Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has called on newly appointed community leaders and village chiefs to execute their duties with unwavering responsibility and integrity.

He emphasised that these roles are a significant public trust, not merely ceremonial positions.

Tiong delivered this message during the appointment ceremony for community leaders in the Dudong and Bawang Assan state constituencies.

He cautioned appointees against neglecting their responsibilities or the welfare of their residents, particularly during emergencies.

“When given the trust to hold the position, do your duty to your utmost best. Don’t hold the position and shrug your duties,” he stated firmly.

The minister warned he would not hesitate to replace any leader found failing in their duties or losing community trust.

He also advised community leaders to avoid excessive involvement in party politics, which could compromise their role as impartial government representatives.

Tiong stressed the importance of fairness and service to all residents, regardless of political affiliation.

“As community leaders, we need to be fair and provide service to all, regardless of party. The law is very clear in this matter,” he said.

He urged them to tackle issues properly by referring to the district office when necessary to ensure fair decisions.

Tiong expressed hope that the new appointees would strengthen cooperation and elevate service quality for their local communities.
