All main Louvre robbery suspects now in custody, says prosecutor

Four alleged ringleaders of the €88 million Louvre jewellery heist are all in custody facing gang robbery and criminal organisation charges.

PARIS: All four alleged ringleaders of the spectacular Louvre museum robbery are now in custody according to Paris public prosecutor Laure Beccuau.

Beccuau announced on Friday that preliminary proceedings had been initiated against the fourth suspect arrested on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old faces charges of gang robbery and participation in a criminal organisation.

He has been ordered remanded in custody along with his three alleged accomplices arrested earlier.

The fourth suspect has six prior convictions including a 2023 aggravated pimping conviction.

He is also known for offences involving stolen goods according to the public prosecutor’s office.

Another man and two women arrested on Tuesday have been released without charges.

Investigators currently have no evidence against the released individuals.

Ongoing investigations focus on recovering the stolen jewellery worth €88 million.

Authorities are working to determine each gang member’s specific role in the heist.

They are also investigating how the sophisticated theft was planned and executed.

The brazen robbery made international headlines for its audacious execution.

Masked perpetrators used a truck with a lifting platform parked beside the museum.

Two accomplices waited on motor scooters while two others accessed a first-floor balcony.

The thieves climbed through a window to enter the museum’s exhibition area.

They stole eight precious jewellery pieces belonging to former queens and empresses.

The perpetrators escaped on the waiting motor scooters with their historic loot. – Bernama
