A Mindanao politician allegedly financed a private jet carrying 521 kilograms of suspected shabu seized in Laos, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
MANILA: Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) spokesperson Joseph Frederick Calulut on Thursday said investigators had verified that a politician from Mindanao allegedly financed the chartered private jet that carried 521 kilograms of suspected shabu worth PHP3.54 billion seized in Laos, Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported.
He declined to disclose the politician’s identity and the amount paid.
A Filipino identified only as ‘Fahad’, reportedly a resident of Marawi City, was arrested after the suspected drugs were seized at Luang Prabang International Airport. Authorities said the shipment was reportedly bound for the Philippines.
PDEA chief Isagani Nerez earlier said investigators are tracing Fahad’s connections and identifying possible accomplices in the Philippines as part of the ongoing transnational drug trafficking probe.
