Singer Barry Manilow, 82, reveals lung cancer diagnosis found early after bronchitis, cancels shows for surgery with plans to return in February 2026.
LOS ANGELES: Legendary US singer Barry Manilow has announced a lung cancer diagnosis.
The 82-year-old Grammy winner revealed the news in an Instagram post on Monday.
He said a cancerous spot was discovered on his left lung during an MRI following a prolonged bout of bronchitis.
“It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early,” Manilow wrote.
He confirmed plans to undergo surgery to remove the cancer.
As a result, all his scheduled concerts for the remainder of December and January have been cancelled.
“The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis,” he stated.
Manilow added his treatment will not involve chemotherapy or radiation.
“No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns,” he quipped.
The soft rock icon, famous for 1970s hits like “Copacabana” and “I Write the Songs”, aims to return to the stage by mid-February 2026.
He specifically mentioned his upcoming Valentine’s weekend concerts in Las Vegas.
“I’m counting the days until I return to my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts on February 12-13-14,” Manilow said.
“Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!”
