A married couple died trying to disarm a gunman at Bondi Beach, with dashcam footage showing their brave intervention during the attack that killed 15.
SYDNEY: A married couple killed in the Bondi Beach mass shooting have been hailed for their bravery after dashcam footage emerged.
The video shows retired mechanic Boris Gurman, 69, wrestling with gunman Sajid Akram at the start of the attack last Sunday.
Gurman knocked the attacker to the ground and tried to seize his long-barrelled weapon as his wife Sofia, 61, rushed to support him.
Akram reportedly retrieved another gun and shot the couple dead during the Hanukkah festival attack that killed 15 people.
The Gurman family expressed overwhelming pride in their bravery and selflessness in a statement.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the Gurmans “Australian heroes” for their actions.
Fruit seller Ahmed al Ahmed has also been praised for wrestling a gun from an assailant during the shooting.
Ahmed was shot several times in the shoulder and was scheduled for surgery. – AFP
