The Dalai Lama wins his first Grammy for an audiobook, calling it a recognition of shared universal responsibility from his exile base in Indi
NEW DELHI: The Dalai Lama expressed gratitude after winning his first Grammy award.
The Buddhist spiritual leader won in the Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording category at the ceremony in Los Angeles.
He earned the award for “Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama”.
“I receive this recognition with gratitude and humility,” he said in a social media post.
“I don’t see it as something personal, but as a recognition of our shared universal responsibility.”
The 90-year-old lives in exile in India and is a global advocate for Tibetan autonomy.
He added that peace, compassion and care for the environment are essential for humanity’s collective well-being.

The audiobook features artists including Rufus Wainwright, who accepted the award on the Dalai Lama’s behalf.
The Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 after Chinese troops suppressed an uprising.
He has never returned to his homeland, which China states is an integral part of its territory.
China condemns the Dalai Lama as a separatist and insists it must approve his eventual successor.
The Dalai Lama maintains that only his India-based office holds that right.
