Swiss police identify four more victims of the New Year’s Eve bar fire that killed 40, bringing the total identified to eight as the investigation continues.
ZURICH: Four more victims of the New Year’s Eve bar fire in Switzerland have been identified.
Valais cantonal police said the bodies of two Swiss women, aged 24 and 22, and two Swiss men, aged 21 and 18, have been returned to their families.
This brings the total number of identified victims from the blaze to eight.
Four other bodies were identified on Saturday.
The fire at the Le Constellation bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana killed 40 people.
It is considered one of Switzerland’s worst tragedies.
Officials are still working to identify many of the deceased.
A total of 119 people were injured, many with severe burns.
Numerous injured were transferred to specialised burn units across Europe.
Police said work to identify all the dead and injured is ongoing.
Two people who ran the bar are under criminal investigation.
Prosecutors said on Saturday they are suspected of offences including homicide by negligence.
