Greek authorities rescued 52 migrants in two Aegean Sea operations but are searching for a missing child after a landing on a remote island.
ATHENS: Greek coastguard vessels and an air force helicopter are searching for a missing child off the island of Farmakonisi.
The search follows the rescue of 13 migrants who had arrived on the small, uninhabited island, according to the ANA news agency.
A separate operation located another 39 migrants aboard an inflatable boat off the southern island of Crete.
Those rescued near Crete were taken to the village of Kaloi Limenes, with no details provided about their nationalities.
Many migrants attempt to reach Greek islands from Turkey or Libya as a gateway into the European Union.
Both sea crossings are notoriously perilous, with frequent tragedies.
Earlier this month, 17 people were found dead on a migrant boat drifting off Crete, with another 15 reported missing.
That vessel had departed from the Libyan port of Tobruk, with most victims from Sudan or Egypt.
The UN refugee agency reports over 16,770 asylum seekers have arrived on Crete since the start of the year.
This figure is higher than for any other island in the Aegean Sea.
