Elon Musk’s Grok AI tool is under fire for creating erotic images of children and women, prompting urgent fixes and global investigations.
SAN FRANCISCO: Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence tool Grok is urgently fixing flaws after users complained it generated erotic images of children and women.
The company acknowledged “lapses in safeguards” in a post on X, formerly Twitter, stating that child sexual abuse material is illegal and prohibited.
Complaints surged after an “edit image” button was rolled out on Grok in late December.
This feature allowed users to modify any image on the platform, with some choosing to partially or completely remove clothing from subjects.
Grok maker xAI responded to an AFP query with an automated message claiming “the mainstream media lies.”
The chatbot itself, however, replied to a user query about potential US criminal prosecution for facilitating child pornography.
Indian government officials are demanding X provide details on measures to remove obscene content generated by Grok without consent.
Media outlets in India reported the demand for action against “obscene, nude, indecent, and sexually suggestive content.”
Meanwhile, the public prosecutor’s office in Paris expanded an investigation into X to include accusations Grok was used for generating and disseminating child pornography.
The initial investigation was opened in July over allegations the social network’s algorithm was manipulated for foreign interference.
Grok has faced criticism for generating controversial statements on topics from the Gaza war to antisemitic remarks in recent months.
