Iran accused of launching a deadly rocket and drone attack on a Kurdish opposition party’s headquarters in Iraq, killing one member and wounding two others.
ERBIL: An Iranian Kurdish opposition party based in Iraq has accused Iran of conducting a rocket and drone attack on its headquarters.
The Kurdistan Freedom Party said the dawn strike killed one of its members and injured two others.
“We believe the reason we were targeted is because of our activities, particularly our calls for people in Iran to protest against the regime,” a party official told AFP.
The party, founded in 1991, includes fighters who previously battled the Islamic State group in Iraq.
Iran regularly labels such Kurdish groups as “terrorist” and separatist organisations.
It often accuses them of carrying out attacks against Iranian security forces.
The attack comes weeks after mass protests in Iran posed a serious challenge to the country’s theocratic leadership.
In 2022, during another wave of protests, Iran also struck opposition group headquarters in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The Kurdistan Freedom Party vowed its struggle for freedom would become “more resolute” following the attack.
