Israeli forces shot dead a man who tried to run over soldiers in the West Bank, Palestinian officials said, amid ongoing violence in the territory.
EINABUS: Israeli troops shot and killed a man who attempted to run over soldiers in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday.
The military said the incident occurred in the area of Einabus in the northern West Bank.
“A short while ago, a report was received regarding a terrorist who attempted to run over IDF soldiers operating in the area of Einabus,” a military statement said.
“In response, the soldiers fired at the terrorist and eliminated him.”
The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated three people after Israeli forces opened fire on a vehicle with Palestinian plates near Einabus.
Two people were shot, with one in critical condition, while a third was injured from being beaten, the aid group reported.
The Palestinian civil affairs authority identified the deceased as 20-year-old Qais Sami Jaser Allan.
It stated he “was shot by the occupation forces between the towns of Einabus and Awarta”.
This incident follows a deadly attack days earlier where a Palestinian from the West Bank ran over an Israeli man and fatally stabbed a teenage girl in northern Israel.
The perpetrator in that attack was also killed.
Following that Friday incident, the Israeli military conducted a two-day operation in the attacker’s hometown of Qabatiya.
Several residents, including the attacker’s father and brothers, were detained.
Violence has surged in the West Bank since the Gaza war began after Hamas’s October 2023 attack on Israel.
Israeli troops and settlers have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians in the territory since then, according to an AFP tally of Palestinian health ministry figures.
The tally includes many militants as well as dozens of civilians.
Official Israeli figures state at least 44 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks or Israeli military operations in the West Bank in the same period.
