Hollywood was filled with Michael Jackson fans for the biopic premiere, a family-led event celebrating the King of Pop’s legacy and a new cinematic portrayal
HOLLYWOOD: Fans clad in black and sequins packed the iconic boulevard for the Los Angeles premiere of the Michael Jackson biopic.
The film “Michael” chronicles the legendary artist’s rise from child star to global pop icon.
Its director, Antoine Fuqua, said it was beautiful to see the support for Jackson and the movie.
The premiere became a family affair led by the star’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, who portrays him.
“It’s so surreal,” Jaafar said of portraying his uncle in his first acting role.
He added that he was still taking in the incredible experience of the premiere.
Jackson’s brothers praised Jaafar’s performance on the event’s black carpet.
“When I watch the movie, I think I’m watching Michael on the stage,” said brother Jackie Jackson.
He stated that Jaafar did a wonderful job that brought tears to his eyes.
Another brother, Marlon Jackson, reflected on the film showing their family life.
He said people would see the Jackson family goes through trials like any other.
The siblings shared embraces with actors portraying family members on the carpet.
Nia Long, who plays mother Katherine Jackson, noted the women set the family’s baseline.
She hopes the film shows Jackson as a master artist who cared deeply about humanity.
Colman Domingo, portraying father Joe Jackson, likened the film to a great album.
“Hopefully this film is a great album for someone,” Domingo said.
