Minneapolis demands role in probe of ICE shooting death

Minneapolis officials slam federal exclusion from ICE shooting investigation as public outrage grows and weekend protests are planned nationwide.

MINNEAPOLIS: Local officials have condemned federal agencies for shutting them out of the investigation into a fatal shooting by an immigration officer.

Mayor Jacob Frey said the state’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been excluded from the probe into the killing of motorist Renee Good.

Federal investigators have taken custody of Good’s car and shell casings from the scene, according to local prosecutor Mary Moriarty.

The Trump administration has labelled the victim a “domestic terrorist,” insisting the ICE agent acted in self-defense.

Cell phone footage shows the officer interacting with Good before she attempts to drive away and shots are fired.

The White House claims the video supports the officer’s self-defense claim, though the clip does not show the moment of shooting.

“This is not the time to bend the rules,” Mayor Frey said at a briefing.

He expressed deep concern that the Department of Justice had already reached conclusions about the case.

Frey questioned why experienced local investigators were not included in the process.

US Vice President JD Vance stated the officer had “absolute immunity,” a claim disputed by local prosecutors.

Court filings reveal the officer was dragged by a car during an enforcement operation last June.

Local resident Patrick O’Shaughnessy said public trust erodes when federal agencies withhold evidence.

Minnesota officials say local investigators were initially invited by the FBI but later blocked.

Good was shot in the head as she apparently tried to drive away from ICE officers.

She is one of four people killed by ICE since the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown began.

Good’s wife said they went to the scene to support neighbors facing immigration enforcement.

“We had whistles. They had guns,” Becca Good told local media.

Prosecutor Moriarty emphasized the need for a thorough local investigation.

She unveiled an online evidence portal to compile all available leads from the public.

Moriarty urged federal authorities to reconsider and grant local detectives access to evidence.

Protests continued at a federal facility, where officers clashed with demonstrators.

Organizers planned roughly 1,000 weekend protest gatherings across the United States.

Protestor Kate Netwal accused the administration of being “drunk on power.”
