OpenAI provides free ChatGPT Go subscription for Indian users for one year starting November 4 to boost adoption in key market.

NEW DELHI: OpenAI will provide its ChatGPT Go subscription free to users in India for one full year beginning November 4.

The Microsoft-backed startup announced this initiative on Tuesday to increase adoption in its second-largest market.

This plan represents OpenAI’s most affordable offering and currently costs 399 rupees per month.

India’s government recently proposed comprehensive new regulations for artificial intelligence companies.

These rules would require AI and social media firms to clearly label AI-generated content to combat deepfakes and misinformation.

India ranks as OpenAI’s second-largest user base globally after the United States.

CEO Sam Altman previously stated India could soon become OpenAI’s biggest market.

Competitor Perplexity is providing a year of free access to its premium plan through partnership with mobile carrier Bharti Airtel.

Google has also made its Gemini AI Pro service free for students throughout the same period.
