Afghanistan’s electronic ID card programme has issued over 17 million cards since 2018, with more than 10 million men and 6 million women registered.
KABUL: More than 17 million Afghan nationals have received electronic national identity cards since the programme launched in May 2018.
The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) stated that a total of 17,068,000 Afghans have now received their cards.
Out of this figure, 10,621,000 recipients are men and 6,447,000 are women.
Authorities had earlier estimated the country’s population to be as high as 36.4 million. – Bernama-Xinhua
