Russia condemns US military strikes in Venezuela, calling them unjustified ‘armed aggression’ driven by ideological hostility over diplomacy.
MOSCOW: Russia has condemned the United States military action in Venezuela as an unjustified act of aggression.
The Russian foreign ministry issued a statement on Saturday calling the US operation “deeply concerning and condemnable”.
It asserted that the pretexts used by Washington to justify the strikes were untenable.
“Ideological hostility has triumphed over businesslike pragmatism,” the ministry’s statement said.
The Kremlin described the operation as an “act of armed aggression” against Venezuela, a key Russian ally in South America.
Russia expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people following the attacks.
The statement confirmed there were no reports of Russian citizens injured in the US strikes.
It did not mention Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, whom US President Donald Trump said was captured during the action.
Russia has stopped short of offering direct military assistance to Caracas in the event of a conflict.
