Malaysia’s Education Ministry focuses on a new preschool curriculum and a 2026 Education Development Plan as key priorities for the upcoming school session.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has outlined two main priorities for the 2026 school session. Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the focus is on implementing a new preschool curriculum and launching a new Education Development Plan.

The new preschool curriculum will be introduced ahead of its original 2027 schedule. Fadhlina stated that 2026 is a critical year following the return of the school calendar to a January start.

She made these remarks during the Ceria ke Sekolah programme with the ERM Foundation in Bandar Tun Razak. The event was also attended by Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and the Prime Minister’s political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin.

Separately, Fadhlina described school aid initiatives as significant in alleviating parents’ financial burdens. She said 800 students received assistance at the event, with approximately 5,000 recipients in the Bandar Tun Razak constituency.

Such initiatives align with the government’s commitment to safeguarding children’s educational welfare. Fadhlina added this ensures children are better prepared for school.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the Prime Minister’s wife, said the programme reflects collective concern for underprivileged families. “Alhamdulillah. This is a very meaningful occasion, allowing us to come together and provide assistance to those in need,” she said.

She also thanked the sponsor, ERM Foundation, for its ongoing commitment to supporting young people. ERM Foundation founder Xin Er said the initiative provided RM300 each in aid and supplies to 800 students.

The aid is meant to assist underprivileged children with their new school session. Xin Er added that the foundation hopes to continue the programme annually.
