Gula Rahmah sales restricted to mobile MADANI Rahmah programme

Gula Rahmah coarse sugar, priced at RM2.70 per kg, is only sold via the mobile MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme, says deputy minister Fuziah Salleh.

KUANTAN: The sale of subsidised Gula Rahmah coarse sugar is permitted exclusively through the mobile MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the policy remains to ensure public access to affordable sugar.

“So far, this is the modus operandi for the sale of Gula Rahmah approved by the ministry,” she told reporters after launching a Back to School sales programme here.

She added the policy could change subject to any new directives from the ministry in the future.

Gula Rahmah is priced at RM2.70 per kilogramme.

It is an initiative by HMBE Legacy Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the ministry.

The sugar currently does not receive any government incentives and is sold on a mobile basis outside business premises.

Fuziah also commented on the ongoing Back to School sales programme series in Pahang.

A total of 50 programmes are being held across the state from December 18 until January 11.

The initiative is a targeted government measure to address cost of living concerns ahead of the new school session.

It focuses on essential school needs through major stationery suppliers as strategic partners.

Items like coloured pencils and calculators are offered at lower prices.

“There is no price control on school supplies as they are sold in an open market to encourage healthy competition,” Fuziah said.

She added the ministry ensures there is no profiteering, and action will be taken if it occurs.
