Russia hails ‘new type’ of ties with Türkiye based on equality

Russia praises its relationship with Türkiye as a new model of interstate interaction built on equality, sovereignty, and mutual interest.

MOSCOW: The Russian Foreign Ministry has hailed bilateral ties with Türkiye as an “absolutely new type of interstate interaction based on equality, respect for sovereignty and consideration of each other’s fundamental interests”.

In a statement marking the 105th anniversary of the 1921 Moscow Treaty, the ministry described the pact as a true cornerstone for the foundation of modern Russian-Turkish relations.

It stated that the treaty, by proclaiming principles of “the brotherhood of nations and the right of peoples to self-determination,” marked a decisive break with imperialist policies of the past.

The ministry emphasised that these principles, laid down over a century ago, retain their “creative energy” and continue to develop in modern realities.

It noted that the current political dialogue between the two nations at the highest levels remains confidential and intensive.

Adherence to the spirit of the 1921 Moscow Treaty was cited as the key to the further progressive development of relations for the well-being and prosperity of both peoples.
