US President Donald Trump says he is disappointed Ukraine’s Zelensky has not read the US proposal to end the war with Russia
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said he felt “a little bit disappointed” with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky for not engaging with a plan to end the war with Russia.
Trump made the remarks on the red carpet for the Kennedy Center Honors when asked about the status of negotiations.
“So we’ve been speaking to President Putin and we’ve been speaking to Ukrainian leaders — including Zelensky, President Zelensky — and I have to say that I’m a little bit disappointed that President Zelensky hasn’t yet read the proposal, that was as of a few hours ago,” Trump told reporters.
Days of negotiations between US and Ukrainian officials, including Zelensky, ended on Saturday without an apparent breakthrough.
Zelensky did commit to conducting further talks toward achieving “real peace.”
The talks followed a meeting in Moscow where US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.
Moscow has rejected parts of the US peace proposal.
The US plan has undergone several drafts since it first emerged last month.
It has faced criticism for being too soft on Russia, which launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. – AFP
