Trump to address nation amid voter discontent over economy

President Trump will deliver a primetime speech focusing on his achievements and future policies as Americans express frustration over high living costs.

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump will deliver a primetime address to the nation on Wednesday, touting his administration’s accomplishments.

The speech comes as public satisfaction with his handling of the economy shows signs of decline nearly a year into his second term.

Trump previewed the event on social media, stating, “it has been a great year for our Country, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president would highlight “historic accomplishments” including efforts on inflation and immigration.

“He’s going to talk a lot about the accomplishments over the past 11 months,” Leavitt told reporters.

She added that Trump would be “maybe teasing some policy that will be coming in the New Year as well.”

The address follows a series of protectionist and nationalist policies enacted at the start of his term.

However, a recent poll indicates only 31% of Americans are satisfied with Trump’s economic policy.

Voters are expressing anger over high prices for essentials like gasoline and groceries.

Some analysts link these costs to tariffs imposed by the administration on trading partners.

Trump has recently campaigned on a promise to “make America affordable again” during trips to states like Pennsylvania.

Vice President JD Vance addressed economic concerns during a speech in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

“They know what Joe Biden broke is not going to get fixed in a week,” Vance stated.

Internal focus appears to be shifting as midterm elections approach next year.

Trump’s chief of staff Susie Wiles suggested the president’s program would feature “more talks about the domestic economy.” – AFP
