Trump to deliver year-end address, touting ‘historic’ achievements

President Trump will give a televised address on his first year back in power, focusing on inflation and immigration amid voter economic discontent.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump will deliver a televised address to the nation on Wednesday, touting the “great year” since his return to power.

The speech comes as voters express mounting discontent over the economy and high living costs.

Trump announced the address on his Truth Social network, stating, “I look forward to ‘seeing’ you then.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the speech will focus on bringing down inflation and tackling immigration.

“He’ll be addressing the country about all of his historic accomplishments over the past year, and maybe teasing some policy that will be coming in the New Year as well,” Leavitt told Fox News.

Trump has boasted of a new “golden age” for America during his second term.

However, a recent poll found only 31% of Americans are satisfied with Trump’s economic policy, with many blaming his tariffs for high prices.

Trump is ramping up domestic travel to push his economic message, with a campaign-style rally scheduled in North Carolina on Friday.

Vice President JD Vance urged patience during a speech in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

“They know Rome wasn’t built in a day. They know what Joe Biden broke is not going to get fixed in a week. We got to stay with it,” Vance said.

Trump’s chief of staff Susie Wiles indicated the president’s program would feature more focus on the domestic economy.

The president faces growing criticism from his MAGA movement for focusing on foreign policy over domestic issues. – AFP
